A concept study exploring how underutilized school spaces can become greener, healthier, and more inspiring environments for everyday learning and community life.
This concept study envisions the transformation of a typical urban school courtyard into a welcoming landscape where nature, social interaction, and environmental awareness coexist. Existing hard surfaces are softened through Mediterranean planting, flowering borders, edible gardens, and shaded gathering areas that encourage students and educators to spend more time outdoors.
The proposal introduces outdoor classrooms, communal seating, productive planting beds, and biodiversity-friendly green infrastructure, creating opportunities for experiential learning while improving comfort, microclimate, and visual identity. Rather than a decorative intervention, the design explores how landscape can actively support education, wellbeing, and a stronger connection between people and nature.
Developed as a conceptual exploration, the project demonstrates how modest spatial interventions can transform overlooked educational environments into vibrant places for learning, creativity, and community engagement.
