A compact productive landscape transforming an unused side yard into a dense, seasonal food-growing ecosystem for everyday domestic life.
The Porto Rafti edible garden project focused on the regeneration of a narrow and previously underutilized side space into a highly productive raised-bed growing system designed around seasonality, biodiversity, and regenerative cultivation practices. Built through custom modular raised beds and integrated irrigation infrastructure, the garden combines vegetables, herbs, edible flowers, pollinator-attracting species, and companion planting strategies into a compact but abundant ecosystem adapted to the Mediterranean climate.
The project was developed with an emphasis on practical everyday interaction between the household and food production, allowing direct access to fresh seasonal produce throughout the year while simultaneously improving thermal comfort, biodiversity, soil quality, and ecological resilience within the site. Sunflowers, aromatic herbs, leafy greens, climbing vegetables, and flowering species coexist within dense polycultures inspired by agroecological and permaculture principles, creating a space that functions simultaneously as productive infrastructure, sensory landscape, and living ecological system.
