A low-intervention Mediterranean herbal garden designed around biodiversity, seasonality, and regenerative landscape practices within the pine forest ecosystem of Ekali.
The project transforms an underutilized forest-edge plot into a productive and ecologically balanced herbal landscape inspired by Mediterranean ecosystems and natural succession patterns. Circular planting islands composed of lavender, rosemary, sage, thyme, artemisia, lemon verbena, and seasonal edible species are distributed organically across the site, allowing cultivation to blend softly into the surrounding pine woodland.
The garden was developed through low-disturbance land management practices, preserving the natural terrain and existing biodiversity while gradually improving soil structure, moisture retention, and ecosystem resilience through mulching, companion planting, and adaptive seasonal maintenance. Beyond its productive role, the space functions as a sensory and atmospheric landscape, reconnecting everyday domestic life with the rhythms, textures, and aromas of Mediterranean nature.
