Natural roots | Honest materials | Mediterranean vibes

Landscape design @ Kallimarmaro

A Mediterranean-inspired landscape intervention designed to soften and reactivate the social edges of one of Athens’ most historic urban sports facilities.

Developed for the iconic Fokianos Sports Complex of Athens, this project focused on transforming exposed seating and circulation zones into greener, more welcoming environments through layered planting, modular wooden planters and climbing vegetation. The intervention introduced a softer spatial rhythm across the outdoor café and gathering areas, creating natural shading, visual filtering and a stronger connection between sport, leisure and urban nature.

The planting palette combined Mediterranean shrubs, aromatic species, climbers and resilient ornamental vegetation selected for their adaptability to intense urban conditions and seasonal variation. Wooden lattice structures supported vertical growth while simultaneously functioning as semi-transparent spatial dividers, improving comfort and intimacy without disconnecting the space from its surroundings.

The overall composition aimed to introduce a slower and more atmospheric experience within a highly active public environment, bringing texture, biodiversity and seasonal life into a space primarily defined by concrete, movement and athletic activity.
